STARS STORIES: Shona's Success Story

"I came into STARS knowing all about FRIENDS FIRST because of my brother Corie. I was a mentee in 6th grade and made my own relationship with Lead Program Coordinator, Mary Edet. Little did I know that was going to be one of the most important relationships in the world to me. I went through one of the hardest times in my life in 8th grade. My parents were getting a divorce and it turned my whole world upside down. I started self-harming and didn’t think my life would ever get better. Everyone told me it would get better even Mary and I had my doubts but I kept going. Mary was a constant in my life. She never left my life no matter how difficult I thought I was. I went through many ups and downs toward getting better. I finally got better and stayed better. My relationships have been what has kept me going and getting stronger every day. Now, I can say I graduated and have been free from self-harming for two years! My mentor Mary is still a constant in my life and the kind of mom I strive to be in the future. I want to thank everyone at FRIENDS FIRST for saving my life and being there for me always." ❤️
