What brought you to FRIENDS FIRST?
I love the opportunity to work with a non-profit who’s vision is to serve communities by working with the youth and their families here in Pueblo. I believe in the power of mentoring, thanks to the mentors I’ve had in my life. I believe mentoring has a huge impact on individuals, their family and friends and the community as a whole.
How has a mentor impacted your life?
There are many people I consider mentors to me now, and people who have had mentored me growing up. They all play different roles, and bring so much goodness, hope, and joy to my life. They are teachers who are happy to see me learn and grow. They are family who always keep me in their prayers. They are the people in my life who always see my potential and are sure to remind me of it. They share wisdom and knowledge and they give me tough love when I need it. I am here today because of them all!
Shout out to my mentors! My older brother, my late boxing coach, my high school guidance counselor, my ELD teachers (Cohort 1 POR VIDA!) and my high school Chicano Studies teacher.
