This program is an abstinence education
program for Hispanic girls ages 11-15 and their parents and family.
It gives the young women a chance to reflect on what their Quinceañera
means as a rite of passage. The girls will explore topics including
character development, body image, love, relationships, peer pressure,
communication with their parents and peers, the negative consequences
to early sexual involvement and the benefits of sexual abstinence
until marriage. The program includes a community service project
to encourage the girls to begin thinking about their adult role
in their community and a graduation ceremony to celebrate their
commitment to abstinence until marriage. The program is packed with
activities and thought provoking discussion topics. Parents and
family members attend to offer support throughout the program and
learn how to better communicate with their teens on tough topics,
particularly sex.
This program can be structured in a 10-hour, 16-hour or 24-hour
format depending on the involvement and depth your group prefers.
These hours can be divided in the number of sessions that work for
your group. Some groups meet once a week while others complete the
program during a weekend retreat.
